What are UK/EU/USA visa costs and process?

UK Iranian visas

Visa on arrival is not possible for UK passport holders. The visa needs to be stamped in your passport before you arrive at the Iranian border

Application Time: 3-4 months

Cost: £170 7-10 day delivery or £250 same day delivery

Process:

  1. Ask for a travel authorization number from the agent in Iran, who will apply to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA). YellowWood will facilitate this part of the process.  We will need a copy of your passport.
  2. The agent will send you a form to fill in and assist you through the process. Getting your travel authorization number could take 5 days or could take up to 2 months.
  3. When you have your number, you must visit, in person, the Iranian Consulate at 50 Kensington Court in London. Please note that this is not the same place as the embassy.  The visa section is only open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and only from 2pm to 4pm.  You do not need an appointment.  The staff are very friendly & helpful.  Women – please have your hair covered.

You will need:

  • The form with the number on it that the agent sent you.
  • An application form downloaded from the consulate website and filled in beforehand – includes your address in Iran & the agent’s address in Iran and other details from your passport. There are various questions about education & countries visited in the past but as long as your answers are sensible it doesn’t seem to matter.  It might be wise not to have been to Israel or other obvious countries if you can avoid it.  There seemed to be no cross-examination.
  • Your passport
  • Two passport photos
  • The itinerary of places to be visited; details of travel insurance as requested on the consulate website; yellow fever certificate (if you have one)
  • Money – they only take cash and we recommend UK GBP (not Scottish etc). You need 170 GBP or 250 GBP for the same day service.
  • A special delivery envelope addressed to yourself (unless you go for the same day service but maybe take one anyway).

The Visa section opens at 2pm but it’s worth being near the front of the queue, say 1.30pm.  You will be asked to queue on the opposite side of the road.  At 2pm a member of staff comes out with numbered tickets (like at a  deli counter!).  You are then all shown to the basement & taken in turn of your deli ticket.

At the first desk you hand over all of the above (except money) and your fingerprints are taken.  You then go to a second desk to pay.

If you opted for the standard 170 GBP service, they say that they will post your passport back to you in the special delivery envelope you provided, within 7 to 10 working days.

If you pay 250 GBP, you will be given a receipt and told to come back later (eg at 4pm or 5.30 etc). When you do come back, it’s to the ground floor waiting room.  You wait a little and hey presto, you are given your passport with visa!

Can I get my Iranian visa in card like in Israel or Cuba?

No.

Refusal of Entry into Iran – Israeli stamp

Admission to Iran can be refused to anyone with a passport containing a visa/stamp from Israel. If you have a stamp from Israel you might want to apply for a brand new clean passport to avoid any problems. The authorities can refuse to offer you a visa for Iran if your passport has a stamp from Israel.

How does an Iran stamp affect the USA visa waiver program?

The American State Department’s current regulations relating to Iran, require that any individual who has visited Iran in the last three years, can no longer qualify for the USA ’visa waiver’ program.

Such individuals will now have to apply for a visa, at their local American Embassy. The resident U.S. immigration officer will usually interview them and when the decision is made to grant the visa, it is likely to be a ten-year multiple entry visa.
